He-xi Series

The He-Xi (huh-she) Series came about during artist residencies in Lanzhou, China, in 2018 and Shigaraki, Japan, in 2019. The He-Xi corridor is an enormous geographic valley that the Silk Road followed out into western Gansu Provence, China, and beyond. I have continued to work on pieces that reflect my experiences in these places. They also utilize technical ideas that have developed over the years where I try to gain a sense of immediacy in the clay material. These always arrive back at the overall concept of the landscape, the place which in we reside.
